Bungoma County health workers who are members of the Afya Sacco are disgruntled due to the way it is run, saying they are having a hard time accessing loans and other financial support.
Led by Chairman Patrick Chemosit, the more than 400 health workers expressed concern over the Afya Sacco’s activities, stating that it is high time it be devolved to every county to ease accessibility. Many members are forced to travel to Nairobi to access the office for loans, and it often takes a long time to be assisted.
He added that retired members of the profession are also having difficulty accessing their shares from the Sacco, and it is time the constitution of the Sacco be changed to ensure services are easily accessible.
Chemosit further lamented the way elections of representatives are carried out across the country, saying the national office seems to have a hidden agenda by often fronting candidates without fully involving members. He emphasized that moving forward, they will not accept this practice.

His sentiments were echoed by Jesse Wafula, who called upon the national office to embrace transparency in carrying out their duties, saying many members are disillusioned with the way the Sacco is being run.
