As the world marks this year’s  Environment day, leaders, educational institutions and residents of Bungoma County have joined the nation to mark this essential day.

Wife to Prime Cabinet Secretary Tessie Musalia together with other leaders from the region who joined NCBA Bank in collaboration with Kibabii University in a tree planting exercise at the institution have today raised concerns on increasing number of use of non recyclable plastic waste which poses a big danger to both human and wildlife.

H.E Tessie who graced the occasion at Kibabii University has called upon both County and national government to join hands in fostering measures which help in environmental conservation. In addition Mrs. Musalia has also called upon educational institutions through environmental clubs to come up with ways that impact learners’ knowledge on dangers of environmental degradation.”

Our learners both in primary and tertiary institutions should be educated on the importance of environmental conservation,” she said

Additionally, Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has said that his administration through the County assembly, has come up with legislative measures to pass into law measures that will help Bungoma County be among the Counties on the front row of conserving the environment.

Lusaka added that Bungoma being on the border with the neighbouring Uganda poses a high risk of using contraband plastic papers that the Ugandan government is yet to pass the law of illegalizing its use. “My government in partnership with local institutions like Kibabii University and local residents, is on the frontline of fostering the Presidential pledge of fifteen billion trees cover,” said Lusaka

The NCBA bank through its Finance Manager David Obwoga has promised to partner with more institutions to ensure environmental conservation adding that through financing, it makes sure that at least two hundred thousand trees are planted weekly through such forums.
