Leaders in Bungoma County have expressed their displeasure over residents ignoring Covid-19 infection prevention guidelines and going back to their normal lifestyles despite new cases increasing with each passing day. Speaking during the burial of the late senior teacher Lucy Bikala, wife to Bungoma County KESSHA chair Edward Bikala, health Chief officer Patrick Wandili said the spike is still on and residents should strictly follow the health protocols.
He said as a County they procured enough personal protective equipment and have also distributed hand washing equipment across the County that need to be utilized. He further added that 17 students from Kimilili Boys High School and Friends School Kamusinga have been admitted at the Webuye isolation center after testing positive for Coronavirus saying the pandemic is real and more cautionary measures need to be put in place.
His sentiments were echoed by Bungoma County deputy Governor Charles Ngome who said the principals need to set up isolation centers in their various schools to curb infections. He further called upon residents to be careful and follow the Ministry’s guidelines to be on the safe side. On his part, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa downplayed the BBI report saying it has not fully addressed the needs of ordinary Kenyans. He said the only thing to be proud of is the County allocation increment from 15 per cent to 35 per cent. Bungoma County former public administration Chief officer Consolata Wakwabubi saying the report has given an opportunity for women to showcase their leadership abilities. The late teacher Lucy was eulogised as a humble teacher who was dedicated in her work.
