The rift between Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has been perceived to be widening as supporters and leaders affiliated to the leaders trade accusations. Bungoma County Assembly leaders called a press conference to register their displeasure with the way the Kakamega Senator has been handling the Mulembe nation leaders.

Speaking to the press the Bungoma County Assembly Deputy Speaker Mr. Omusai Simiyu issued a stern warning to the Senator for what he termed as abusing the senior member of the Luhya community.

“Today we sit here to register our displeasure to the disgruntled Senator of Kakamega for he has been on record not once but several time insulting our senior leaders of the Luhya community. On several occasions he has insulted the ANC party leader Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, on several occasions he has insulted the FORD Kenya party leader Senator Wetangula and more recently has attacked one of our senior most Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa.”

The Bungoma County speaker added that as Luhya community leaders, they are going to deal with the senator ruthlessly if he continued with his attacks on the leaders.

“We’re warning Malala and as we speak today the people of Bungoma, the Luhya nation and the people of Mulembe have spoken. He won’t have an easy ride with the people of Kakamega, Bungoma and Western.”

The Deputy County Speaker’s sentiments were echoed by the Deputy Minority leader in the County Assembly of Bungoma Hon. Tonny Barasa who said that it’s unfortunate that the Kakamega Senator attacking the only youthful leader they have in the country.

Hon. Barasa who is also the MCA Lwandanyi Ward added that the Kakamega Senator should cease being used by other leaders to cause disharmony in the Luhya community. Also present at the brief was Hon. Milly Masungo who is the MCA Misikhu ward and Elvis Abuka MCA Milima ward.
