Bungoma residents urged to embrace poultry farming
Residents of Bungoma County have been urged to embrace indigenous chicken rearing to meet the high demand for the upcoming poultry factory at Chwele in Kabuchai constituency.
Speaking when he received the finishing machine at the factory Bungoma county governor Kenneth Lusaka said with the factory around the demand for poultry is going to increase.
He added that raising indigenous breeds is cheaper as compared to the commercial breeds like broilers which are more expensive to keep and are prone to diseases and require high income for keeping.

“Being the governor I would like to see my people benefit from this factory and I want to urge that person who is in interior part of my county that this is the opportunity at hand and we need to utilize it on a maximum for the sake of our lives,” the governor said.
He said with the factory the population in the region is going to increase adding to the high demand for the products.
He lamented that most farmers have neglected chicken rearing while those rearing chicken provide little thus the chicken suffer nutrients deficiency.
The governor advised the residents to put in place strategies and seek veterinarian advice in rearing the poultry so as to increase their income and uplift their living standards.
The factory that is to be opened officially in two weeks time, the governor also assured the Kabuchai sub county residents that the government shall consider them first in a warding job to casual workers once the factory comes into full operation.
“Being the one where the factory you are going to be the first priority to be considered under my administration before we starting looking for other manpower.” Lusaka said.
Governor Lusaka who was also accompanied by the County Executive Committee member for agriculture and fisheries Lorian Kolikho and other officials, however, also challenged them to embrace coffee farming as the marked now days is welcoming.
