Bungoma County Senator, David Wafula Wakoli, has called on the county’s security agencies to expedite investigations into the growing number of criminal incidents that have been reported across the region. The senator’s statement follows a series of violent attacks, including one in which three students from Kibabii University were severely injured by a gang of unknown individuals.
The incident, which occurred on two consecutive days, left the students with serious head injuries, sparking outrage among residents and the university community. Wakoli expressed his concern over the safety of students and the general public, emphasizing the need for swift action to curb the rising wave of violence.
In a meeting with top security officials led by the County’s Intelligence Head, Dennis Onyango, Senator Wakoli urged the people of Tuuti Marakaru and the entire Bungoma County to report any information they might have about criminal gangs operating in the area. Wakoli believes that the public’s involvement is crucial in tackling the issue of insecurity.
“It’s time for us to unite against these criminal elements,” said Wakoli. “If anyone has any information, I urge them to share it with our security officers. The safety of our people, especially students, is our top priority.”
Bungoma South Police Commander, James Odero, has confirmed the attack and assured the public that measures are being implemented to enhance security in the affected areas. “We have already taken steps to increase patrols and monitor the situation closely. The safety of our residents is our responsibility, and we are committed to ensuring peace and security,” he said.
Residents of Bungoma County have been urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with local authorities in the ongoing fight against crime. As the county works to improve security, the public’s support and collaboration with law enforcement remain essential in ensuring that criminal activities are swiftly addressed and brought to justice.
