More than six hundred secondary and mid-level college students from Bungoma County have benefitted after being awarded cheques to cater for school fees from the affirmative action fund under the Bungoma County women representative office.
In her address to education stakeholders at St. John’s Buko Secondary School in Kimilili Sub County, Bungoma County women Representative Dr. Reginalda Wanyonyi said the fund is aimed at helping students from poor backgrounds access education.
While giving out the cheques to various beneficiaries from different schools, Dr. Reginalda said 631 students in different high schools and middle-level colleges who applied for the fund have benefitted.
She asserted that more than five million shillings under the fund will help the students to continue on their education path uninterrupted, saying most of them are bright and could’ve dropped out of school due to lack of school fees.
She pointed out the case of Kisiwa Technical Training Institute in Kabuchai constituency, where most of the beneficiaries were women who have resorted to going back to class to learn a few skills which will enhance their lives saying it is a positive outlook towards life.
Dr. Reginalda took the opportunity to call upon members of the public to re-elect her in the forthcoming general election saying she has the capability of finishing the projects she has initiated and also spearhead others.
Bernard Wamanga, the principal of Teremi Boys high school, where some of the students benefitted from the fund, thanked the Bungoma women representative for her relentless efforts to boost the standards of education in the County saying she is a hardworking politician.
He, however, challenged other politicians to emulate Dr. Reginalda by helping needy students in schools to stabilize their education endeavours, adding that some of them have huge fee arrears which strain them.
