Bodaboda operators along Moca Street, town location in Bungoma County have launched serious complaints concerning insecurity in their business operations. Their chairperson in township location, Kennedy Wekesa, said that some of the causes of insecurity in the area are as lack of streetlights along the roads in the area, drug addicts operating along the streets at night and corrupt police officials. He also added that there are bodaboda operators who are not registered and recognized by the Township bodaboda group. These challenges they say are not being addressed since they are not being given audience by the local authorities that they report to.
Moca street is well renowned as one of the hotspots of crime and drug peddling in Bungoma town. The operations of bodaboda especially at night have been greatly crippled by these crime occurrences. The operators say that by this their business has been greatly affected and their profits reduced while their lives and their families’ remain endangered. They called on the County government to liaise with the police force to identify corrupt individuals in their midst and replace them while beefing up security and improving the infrastructure in the area especially the street lighting.
The town area chief, Mr. Joseph Cheng’oli, in response said that they are working together with the OCPD and police force in the area to ensure that the drug peddlers in the area are flushed out and are apprehended as soon as possible.
