Residents of Bungoma town and its environs have complained of the increasing traffic jam especially along the Bungoma – Mumias road.
Speaking with www.westfm.co.ke after a whole hour of waiting on the road for the jam to clear, several travellers who have on several occasions got stuck along the Bungoma – Mumias road near Chebkube market complained of the snarl-up which inconveniences many.
They urged the Bungoma county traffic officers to come out and monitor the vehicle movements along the road.
The residents said the jam is mostly caused by heavy lorries and big buses drivers who go against the traffic rules endangering lives on the road and causing unnecessary delays.
During one of the experiences of the long wait the motorists said several vehicles are always seen overlapping and motorcycles following wrong routes to beat their timeline.
They further said such scenarios would cause accidents and theft amongst the passengers and travelers if not well taken care of and brought to a stop.
The people appealed to the concerned bodies to take up their task and make a thorough clean up in town so that people are not stressed in finding their way home or carrying out their activities on time.
They accused some of matatus that still use the Bungoma hospital road and on several occasions seen sneaking making unwanted stops even after being warned against using the road.
Some of the passengers complained of harassment by matatu tan-boys who at times endanger their live by driving through the town at high speed and wanted the traffic officers to be on the lookout.
They said the matatu drivers who leave their vehicles to their conductors are supposed to be thoroughly dealt with as they let put the life of other passengers in danger.
