Bungoma woman representative Catherine Wambilianga has lauded many women in the County for heeding to her calls to join women groups, saying they’ve helped them access business material, specifically tents for hire, and some are set to receive grants which are meant to support the business groups and table banking. She said soon her office will be rolling out grants, and that only one group from every ward in the County will benefit given that the funds are sufficient to cater to every women group. Wambilianga urged the groups who’ll receive the money to use it wisely.

She added that the second phase of giving out tents to the groups is almost underway, and noted that the women groups can also accommodate men, although they shouldn’t be at leadership positions, but just members. The Bungoma woman rep said she is happy during the duration of her time in office, the lives of many women have been transformed and many girls who had dropped out of school due to early marriages and lack of school fees have gone back to school. She has also pledged to avail sanitary towels to schools, starting with Bakisa Girls school in Webuye East, which is the only girls’ school in Mihuu ward. She further urged women who haven’t joined women groups to do so, and consult her office to better understand how they are meant to benefit from them.
