The executive general secretary of Knut Bungoma West branch Moses Masika has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to employ more teachers as one way of improving the results of national examinations in schools by having enough teachers to handle the students.
While speaking to West Media limited in Sirisia, Masika said that more schools in that region are getting challenges of lack of teachers which leads to poor results in national exams.
He condemned TSC for demanding all teachers to sign performance contract as one way of evaluating jobs instead of employing more teachers.
“We also want to warn TSC for introducing things that are not helpful to teachers, we know that poor performance contracting and job evaluation can only be implemented if they are enough teachers, many schools are understaffed and it is impossible to do job evaluation if they are few teachers and many pupils in schools” said Mr. Masika.
Mr. Masika however, appreciated teachers for voting him in and promised to work hand in hand with them as he also urged other stakeholders in education to coordinate with him so that education sector in Bungoma West is improved.
“I take this opportunity to thank teachers for voting me in, this shows that they have trust in me to represent them and I promise to work for them as they expect.
He urge all other education stakeholders like politicians, educationists and professionals to work together with him with an objective of improving education in the area.
He also revealed that the union will continue demanding for the teacher’s salary increment as it was authorized by the high court to make sure that teachers get their right.
