In a remarkable achievement, Ivy Anyona of Bunyore Girls’ National School in Vihiga has emerged as one of the top candidates in the country, scoring an impressive ‘A’ plain of 84 points in the just-released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. Anyona, who aspires to become an oncologist, expressed her dedication to helping Kenya combat the growing number of cancer cases.
Speaking from her home in Sikata, Anyona credited her success to hard work, prayer, and unwavering support from her parents. “I was expecting an ‘A’, but I did not anticipate achieving 84 points. I thank God for this success and am focused on pursuing my dreams of becoming an oncologist,” she said.
Anyona’s academic journey has been challenging, with one of her most difficult moments occurring during her time in class eight. Her mother had to relocate, leaving Anyona to live with her aunt and uncle, who motivated her to stay focused. “It was tough, especially since it was during the Covid-19 period, but I managed to overcome the challenges and scored 405 marks in my KCPE,” she shared.
Her success story also reflects the support she received from her teachers, family, and the entire Bunyore Girls’ National School community. “Teachers were always willing to help me, and my parents provided everything I needed for my education. Their encouragement played a significant role in my achievement,” Anyona expressed.
Dr. Ruth Mitalo, Ivy’s mother, beamed with pride, saying, “As a parent, I am overjoyed by Ivy’s success. She promised me she would do well in school, and she has truly made me proud.”
Meanwhile, in Kabuchai Constituency, another standout student, Abraham Watta from Alliance High School, also celebrated his academic excellence. Watta scored an ‘A’ plain and expressed his gratitude to his parents, Caleb Watta and Ruth Lusike, for their unwavering support throughout his education journey.
Watta, who is passionate about pursuing Civil Engineering, aims to join the University of Nairobi to further his studies. “I thank God for my health and for making this dream a reality,” he said.
