Busia County government has procured medical equipment worth Ksh10million that is aimed at boosting health care at the Busia County Referral Hospital (BCRH) and other hospitals in the County.
The equipment includes digital blood pressure (BP) machines, infant incubators, autoclaves, dental chairs and compressors, patient trolleys, delivery beds and sets, examination couches and Caesarean Section set among others.
Addressing the press while receiving the medical equipment at Matayos Medical Stores from the supplier, County Health and Sanitation Chief Officer Dr Isaac Omeri said the equipment will boost health care as well as reduce the shortage of facilities witnessed in county hospitals.
Busia County Referral Hospital benefitted from the state-of-the-art dental chair and compressor which was installed immediately to the ululations of dental patients.
Dr Omeri said BCRH has experienced a shortage of delivery beds and infant incubators, adding that the new supplies will help address the shortage.
The CO said the current drugs shortage experienced in county hospitals was being addressed with orders placed to procure new drugs. “The Renal Unit at BCRH has also experienced drugs shortage. I have signed an imprest for their purchase,” he said.
Dr Omeri said the referral hospital experiences blood shortage during holidays when students are at home. “With students now back to school the situation will return to normalcy,” he said, adding that the department has procured tents to help in blood campaign.
