Busia County Governor, H.E Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma on Thursday witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the County Government of Busia and the Living Goods (LG) to continue promoting Community Health Care Programs in the county.

Living Goods has been working in Busia for the last seven years to improve primary health care through Digitally Empowered, Equipped, Supervised and Compensated Community Health Promoters (CHPs).
The Governor thanked LG for the milestone that was pioneered in Busia for the last seven and has now been adopted by the National Government of Kenya which has culminated in the launch of CHPs at Uhuru Park recently by H.E William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya.

“Despite challenges here and there in the Health department, we are committed to providing better health services to the people of Busia. We also commit that we will be on the forefront to make sure the LG program is successful,” he said.

The Governor called upon all concerned parties, Department of Health and County Assembly to put their minds and resources in this venture.
He also lauded CHPs effort that has put Busia on the map of Kenya and the world and promised to sort out all the teething issues that are a hindrance to them.

The Deputy Governor (DG) who is also the County Executive Committee Member in the Department of Health and Sanitation, Hon. Arthur Odera said the County CHPs are under utilized and the department will engage them towards enhancing National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) membership registration.
“We are also going to involve the CHPs in the short term, medium term and long term in dealing with non-communicable diseases from the education side, this will be critical in future,” he emphasized.
The DG said the step will help reduce the overall budget of treatment.
Living Goods County Director, Thomas Onyango thanked Busia leadership and said whatever is happening nationally happened seven years in Busia County.
“The phase we are moving to is ensuring Busia moves with excellent innovation and further learning to move the country to the next level especially looking at empowering CHPs digitally,” he emphasized.
Present were Chief Officers of Health and Sanitation, Dr.Susan Outa, Dr. Wilberforce Lusamba, Emmanuel Luvai, Dr. David Oluoch and Living Goods Government Relations Officer, Patrick Adera among others.
