The county government of Busia and Kenya Power & lighting Company has signed an agreement for street lighting in the County on a massive level.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday at the KPLC Headquarters, Stima Plaza in Ngara Nairobi.
The Busia team at the signing ceremony included County Executive Committee member for Roads, Public Works, Transport and Energy Hon. Bernard Krade Yaite, Legal advisor to the Governor Justice Alex Etyang and Chief of staff Robert Papa.
KPLC was represented by the General Manager corporate affairs and Company secretary Beatrice Meso, Manager Street lighting Eng. Jared Othieno, General Manager Street lighting Eng. Benson Muriithi and legal officers Elsie Mworia and Angela Mutindi signed on behalf of the power firm.
The aim of the project is to power the County of Busia to make it competitive, prosperous, sustainable and equitably developed.
Yaite said the project is going to accelerate the vision of Governor Sospeter Ojaamong of Making Busia,Malaba, and other urban centers 24 hour economies.
The project will also improve security and reduce accidents associated with darkness.
Yaite said Works for Busia have began and a team will be in Malaba on Monday to finalize on design, adding that the contractor will be on the site soon. the lighting project will move to Bumala, Nambale, Funyula and Port Victoria.
