The CEC for Water, Environment, Irrigation, Natural Resources and Climate Change in Busia County Government, Engineer Andrew Meso, has urged residents living in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer places.
In an exclusive interview with West Media, Eng. Meso explained how the Busia County government has put in place strategies to ensure that affected residents receive assistance, emphasizing collaboration with various departments to address the residents’ needs.
“Due to the prevailing weather conditions affecting some parts of the country, Busia County too, we are facing challenges with flooding, compounded by issues such as Lake Backflow. There are already affected individuals, the County government of Busia and the national government are working together to ensure affected individuals are assisted. We have already relocated them to proper camps on higher ground, such as the camp at Mundere, among others, to ensure their safety during this situation.” Said Eng. Meso
“I urge those living in flood-prone areas to relocate to avoid being affected. We are closely collaborating with agencies like the Red Cross to provide assistance and support to our people during this time, “he added
He also mentioned the presence of heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds, stating that the issue is being properly addressed by the Disaster Management Department to prevent residents from being adversely affected.
Additionally, we are addressing cases of lightning and strong winds blowing off roofs through our disaster response and emergency department, we hope to overcome these challenges soon.” He concluded
