One person has been killed, one injured and more than fifty houses burnt down following separate altercations between residents from two villages along the Busia-Kakamega border. One youth was killed on Monday night and one seriously injured in Malomba village, Butula Sub County, Busia County by villagers who mistook them for thieves.
The two were among six boys from Etete village, Matungu sub county in Kakamega County who had crossed over to the village in Butula sub county. In retaliation, residents of Etete village on Tuesday morning attacked Malomba village setting ablaze over fifty houses, “They have burnt down my two houses and I have nowhere to stay,” stated one victim from Malomba village.
Butula Sub County Deputy County commissioner Winston Murungi told journalists that they have talked to administrators from Kakamega County and assured locals of their security, even as he condemned the ugly incidences, “We call on our people from both sides to be peaceful as we get to the bottom of the matter. We have also talked to our officers and administrators on the Kakamega side and we are going to ensure that peace prevails.”
