The process of tarmacking roads in Busia and Malaba is in top gear with County Executive Committee Member for Public Works, Transport, Roads and Energy Bernard Yaite visiting various sites to assess the progress.
A total of 11 roads linking Busia Town and residential estates are being upgraded to bitumen standards with six roads undergoing the same process in Malaba Town.
In Malaba, the exercise is ongoing at Malaba Mixed Day Junction-Ateker House-Highway and Junction-Malaba Dispensary-Uplands Resort-Highway.

The CEC member who met site engineers told contractors who have not reported on site to do so to keep the set timelines.
Site Engineers told Yaite of the challenges they were facing, including failure by some businessmen to demolish structures built on road reserves.
Yaite lauded the proprietor of Farm View Hotel Peter Kubebea for demolishing the hotel perimeter wall and urged other businessmen, especially in Malaba, to follow suit.
He said the first tarmacked roads will be formally launched within three months. “Completion of phase one of the project will raise the profile of the border towns,” he said, adding that money for phase two has been budgeted.
