The Busia men’s soccer team has been eliminated from the Seventh Edition of the Kenya Inter-Counties Sports and Cultural Association (KICOSA) after losing 0-2 to Uasin Gishu at the Kericho Green Stadium on Wednesday evening. Dennis Abel’s two goals in the 23rd and 26th minutes were all Uasin Gishu needed to send Busia packing from the tournament where they had topped their pool, while Uasin Gishu had finished second to Kiambu.
KICOSCA secretariat had initially announced the cancellation of the match due to time constraint and in line with FIFA regulations that no much should be played past 6.30 pm unless it’s under flood lights.
After five minutes, the officials changed their stand and sanctioned the match which kicked off at 5.50 pm and ended at 6.43 pm, 13 minutes after the required time by FIFA. Each half was played for 25 minutes.
Earlier, Busia had eliminated hosts Kericho from the games after beating them 1-0 with Jaffar Yakub scoring the lone goal. The men’s volleyball team was eliminated in the quarters by Nakuru with the ladies team falling to Bungoma in the round of 16.
