Business premises remained closed in West Pokot county since August 8th, when residents went to exercise their voting rights.
A spot check at Makutano township revealed that a number of shops, hotels, supermarkets and Makutano bus pack, no business was in operation.
Most of the residents decided to follow the streaming in of results at their homes fearing post election skirmishes this is after the National Cohesion and Integration Commission mapped West Pokot county as one of the hot spot counties that may experience post election violence.
Only few people were seen in town as police vehicles patrolled Makutano town to ensure security fro the residents.
The Governor seat attracted two aspirants John Krop Lonyangapuo( Kanu) and incumbent governor Simon Kachapin Kitalei (Jubilee).
Samson Aturokoi said that many business men in the county decided to close their premises since they feared incurring losses when the final results are announced.
Aturokoi said that residents were eagerly waiting for the gubernatorial seat final
results since most of the polling centers had already transmitted their results.
Makutano bus park was empty with only two vehicle spotted heading to Kitale town.
One of the passangers Hellen Chesang said she boardeda vehicle heading to Kitale town at around 7.00 am and by 10.00am she was still at the stage waiting for more passengers.
“Many people ycast their votes and left the town, they went to their respective homes fearing for their lives,” she said.
One of the drivers at the stage said that many of the matatu owners will not allow their vehicles to operate on any route in the county since they feared incurring losses.
