Businessmen protest over revenue collection time extension

Businessmen in Kitale town are up in arms over the extension of parking revenue collection time from 3.00 pm to 6.30 pm terming the extension as meant to demoralize the business fraternity within the county.

They said that the extension of time for revenue collection was done without consulting the chamber of commerce and industry within the county.

The chairman for the chamber, commerce and industry for Trans Nzoia county Martin Waliaula condemned the decision by the county to extend the parking time and urged the counties administration to call for a meeting between the chamber and business community to discuss on the issue.

He alleged that the county was broke following its money that was withheld by the chase Bank and its using this mechanism to outsource for money through fraudulent means by punishing the business people.

Advert made by the county government on the extension of parking time

“We as the chamber were not consulted about the decision to extend parking fee collection and it’s time for the county Administration to respect the business people within this county because we are stake holders ,we call upon the administration to call a meeting immediately so we can discuss these issues”, said Waliaula.

Waliaula called upon the counties administration to stop punishing the business people in the county on the mistakes they are not aware of as well as to stop raising taxes unlawfully against wishes of the people of the county.

He called upon the county to show the accountability plan of money that it has been raising through tax other than the money given to it by the national government.

He said accountability of the tax that is raised by the counties administration is not open as it has not told the public how it has been using the money.

He said the services being given to the business people is poor as within the town, it has failed to construct even basic amenities like toilets and water which has been a thorny issue for the business communities of the county.
