Butere Sub County is set to benefit from improved waste disposal methods, thanks to the efforts of SymbioCity Project Committee. The committee led by the Kakamega CEC for Lands, Housing, Urban Areas and Physical Planning Mr. Alfred Matianyi has identified a site in Butere market for the establishment of a waste contraction centre to ensure sustained healthy and clean environment.

Speaking during the committee’s meeting today, Mr. Matianyi said the County government will facilitate capacity building and create awareness among the business community on methods of separating organic and non-organic wastes.
There is also need for involvement of the public in SymbioCity activities to enhance security and conserve the environment. Mr. Matianyi said that the waste will be used as organic manure to be delivered to farmers to improve farm production.
The committee is to present SymbioCity project progress report to a development partner, the Swedish government through an embassy official. Also present were Chief Officer in the Ministry Mr. Patrick Lilako and other senior officers.
