Butula Elders Council has applauded Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti for writing to Teachers Service Commission advising it to interdict Butula Boys National school principal Mr. Daniel Ouma over corruption charges facing him. The elders led by their secretary general Henry Musungu and Lawrence Musibi say the directive is appropriate and according to their aspirations, “We want to thank the DCI Mr. Kinoti for asking TSC to interdict Mr. Daniel Ouma who is facing corruption charges. We had written to DCI asking him to intervene and we are happy that he has done so. Now it’s our prayer that TSC will take note of the same and do as asked.”
The elders said it’s not proper for the principal to continue heading the school with the charges he is facing, “He was arrested at daytime in the school and handcuffed as students watched. This is going to affect our students and the best thing to do is to interdict him.”
Apart from being interdicted, the elders also want the troubled principal transferred from the school, “We have lost faith in him and request that he be transferred elsewhere if TSC cannot sack him. We are not saying that he has stolen money or misappropriated it in Butula but looking at the charges facing him, chances are that he is likely to do the same here at Butula.”
Mr. Ouma was arrested one week ago and arraigned at Kisumu law court alongside Teso North former CDF chairperson Sammy Ikwaras and charged with misappropriating two million shillings sent to Kolanya Boys High school in Teso north by the area CDF. He was released on a Kshs 1 million bond with a surety of a similar amount or Kshs 200,000 cash bail.
The elders have also decried deteriorating standards of education in the school since the principal took over from Bernard Marofu, saying when he came to the school, it had a mean score of 9.6 but now it stands at 6.3 and almost at the same level with what they indicated as lower quality schools like Bumala AC.
