Bungoma Water Services Company (BUWASCO) has vowed to take strict action against individuals benefiting from illegal water connections, a practice that has resulted in significant financial losses for the company.
Managing Director Mathew Wakhungu commended residents for actively reporting such cases and warned that anyone caught engaging in illegal water connections will face legal action and heavy fines.
During a recent crackdown led by Operations Officer Collins Siganga, more than ten households were found with unauthorized connections. Residents were urged to avoid private plumbers who deceive them into making illegal payments for connections without involving BUWASCO.
Bungoma County CECM for Water, Tourism, and Natural Resources, Dr. Andrew Wamalwa, emphasized the county’s commitment to ensuring access to clean water following BUWASCO’s separation from Nzowasco. However, he acknowledged the financial strain caused by illegal connections, which has affected the timely payment of contractors despite their successful completion of projects.
BUWASCO continues to encourage residents to use official channels for water services and report any illegal activities to help sustain clean and reliable water supply in Bungoma County.
