The Cabinet has approved the budget estimates for the financial year 2019/2020. The Kshs 3.02 trillion budget is the highest ever in Kenya since independence. President Uhuru Kenyatta chaired a special session of the cabinet at State House, Nairobi ahead of the tabling of the budget at parliament by Treasury CS Henry Rotich. The government expected to borrow more in the next financial year. However, KRA is expected to miss this year’s revenue collection target.
Moments before the tabling of the budget, women MPs walked out of parliament in protest after an assault on Wajir woman rep Fatuma Gedi by Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim on Thursday morning in the precinct of parliament. They called for the exit of Rashid and the Majority Leader Aden Duale, whom they faulted for not defending women rights in parliament.
