Cabinet has approved the renaming of Moi Day to Huduma Day and Boxing Day to Utamaduni Day. The decision was arrived at during a cabinet meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta and attended by Deputy President William Ruto and Cabinet Secretaries at State House in Nairobi on Thursday.
The renaming of Moi Day was as a result of former President Daniel Moi’s desire to have the day commemorated as a day of service and volunteerism. On the idea of renaming Boxing Day, the Building Bridges Initiative team had already proposed that the day be set aside to celebrate and learn about Kenya’s cultures.
Cabinet also approved the commercial farming of BT cotton hybrids following successful completion of field trial conducted over a period of five years.
