As the world continues observing the world breast cancer awareness month, Bungoma County woman representative Catherine Wambilianga has launched a cancer awareness campaign at Webuye County hospital with calls for residents to avail themselves for cancer screening. Speaking at Webuye hospital on Wednesday on behalf of the woman rep, her office manager Moses Nabibia Wasike said that Hon. Catherine decided to have the three day awareness campaign where women and men will have the opportunity to be screened for free adding that the campaign will help to enhance awareness, early detection of the disease and pave the way for the required care.
He added that the office of the woman rep. is concerned with the rising cases of cancer and have put plans in place to ensure residents access free cancer screening in every sub county.
On his part, Webuye County hospital medical superintendent Dr. Simon Kisaka said cancer treatment is very expensive and residents should take advantage of the opportunity given and get screened, something he said everyone should undergo once every year. He was quick to note that the hospital does cancer screening from Monday to Friday. However, Dr Kisaka affirmed that cervical cancer can be treated, especially if it’s picked up in its early stage and assured those who would be diagnosed with the same that they will get treatment services at the hospital. He further urged Webuye residents to register with NHIF.
