President William Ruto has assured sugar cane farmers from sugarcane growing areas that sooner than later his government will start disbursing the cash meant to clear debts the sugar mills owe them.
Speaking while giving a state of the nation addressing in a joint parliament session, President Ruto said that with Sh117 billion loans that he had announced during the months of October to state-owned sugar mills, all farmers whom the state owned companies are owing their cash will be receiving their dues before the end of the year.
He said the government had taken steps to lease the state owned sugar mills in order to revive the ailing sector.
On the Hustler Fund initiative, President Ruto said Kenyans’ reaction towards the Hustler Fund exceeded his government’s expectations and surprised them.
The President said as of October 31, 2023, the government had disbursed Sh26.6 billion and saved Sh2.3 billion.
The Head of State further said that the Huster Fund group product has attracted 50,000 groups.
“Out of the 50,000 groups, 20,000 have received Sh151 million,” he added.
President Ruto said the Hustler Fund has not only provided Kenyans with affordable credit but also shows the readiness of Kenyans to embrace borrowing and repaying culture.
On health, the president thanked the members of parliament fdor enacting for laws that will make enable the universal health care a reality. the four laws enacted and signed by the president include;
1.The Social Health Insurance Bill 2023
2.The Digital Health Bill
3.The Facility Improvement Financing Bill
4.The Primary Health Care Services Bil.
