Health CAS Rashid Aman has called out bars that operate as eateries in order to sell alcohol, contravening the government’s directives as a result. As part of the Covid-19 infection prevention regulations, bars and pubs remain closed and only eateries and restaurants are supposed to operate within a stipulated time.
Speaking to the press at Afya House, he said action will be take against anyone breaking the regulation, “Anyone contravening the law will have to face the consequences. Eateries are acting as bars, at the same time, bars are pretending to be eateries.” He said the licensing regulations for bars and eateries are clear and well laid down.
He further refuted claims that there has been a cabinet lockdown, saying government services are essential services. He said no Cabinet Secretary has been ordered to stop their tasks, and that a circular from the office of the head of public service Joseph Kinyua was meant to reinforce measures government has put in place to tackle Covid-19, “Government officers must function, essential services must continue,” he said.
