Central Bank of Kenya Governor Patrick Njoroge has been reappointed for another term at the helm of CBK by President Uhuru Kenyatta. The CBK Governor will serve another four-year term. The duo of CBK Deputy Governor Ms Sheila M’Mbijjewe and the chairman Mohammed Nyaoga have also been reappointed to serve another four-year term.
Njoroge, who has a PhD in Economics, has received his accolades for the work he has done since his tenure began in 2015, including steadying the Kenyan currency. The latest milestone is presiding over the launch of the new generation banknotes, after the rollout of the new generation coins.
The CBK leadership is also facing an uphill task in the name of a legal battle over the new generation banknotes. After its launch on Madaraka Day, two cases have already been filed, by Okiya Omtatah and EALA MP Simon Mbugua, opposing the issuance of the new banknotes. The CBK Governor, however, affirmed that they are ready to face any legal hurdles in court.
