In celebration of Egg Day, residents of Bungoma County have been urged to incorporate eggs into their diets, as they are one of the essential foods rich in vital nutrients.
During the celebrations held in Bungoma Town, Kelvin Osoro, Chairperson of the National Livestock Union, emphasized the importance of raising awareness within the community about the nutritional benefits of protein found in eggs. He highlighted that eggs are a significant source of high-quality protein that can enhance overall health.
Andrew Musungu, the Bungoma County Chief Officer in the Department of Livestock pledged the government’s commitment to collaborate with other organizations to promote poultry farming. Musungu expressed that increasing local poultry farming would not only improve nutrition but also boost the local economy.
Participants in the event reiterated the need to encourage farmers to engage in poultry farming, emphasizing the government’s role in facilitating these initiatives. They believe that enhancing egg production can play a crucial part in improving food security and nutrition in the region.
World Egg Day has been marked since 1996 on the second Friday of October every year by a decision of the International Egg Commission. This year, it is celebrated on October 11 under the motto “United by Eggs”. World Egg Day aims to promote the nutritional benefits of egg consumption
