Cheptil Boys from Mau region are the new volleyball champions of the Airtel Rising Stars Secondary Schools Term Two B games after humbling last years’ kings Malava 3-2 in a thrilling final at Kisumu Boys, yesterday.
Malava started the encounter well winning the first set 25-21 before Cheptil rounded them to win the second 25-20.
The gear shifted in favour of Shadrack Tovoko’s side in the third set that they won 25-20.
However, Cheptil claimed the fourth and fifth sets with 25-21 and 19-17 respectively.
Cheptil coach Daniel Kirwa praised his boys for the good performance as they set their sight on the regional games later this month.
“It was an uphill task dethroning the defending champions. We will start preparation for East Africa games as soon as possible and hope that we replicate the same form,” he said.
However, AIC Kosirai retained the girls’ gong after thrashing rivals Soweto from Metropolitan 3-1 ( 24-26, 25-18, 25-15 and 26-24) with destroyers-in-chief being setter Nelly Chepchumba and blocker Marion Cheruto.

Kosirai coach Richard Soi said, “Retaining the title was no walk in the park but my girls though looked tensed, performed well.”
His Soweto counterpart Johnstone Mukabwa said that the girls played their hearts out but unfortunately they could not match Kosirai.
“We are going back to the drawing board to correct our mistakes before East Africa games,” said Johnstone.
In boys’ play offs, Tetu completed a double over Sengera SDA after defeating them 3-1 (25-18, 25-19, 16-25 and 25-19) to win bronze.
Former champions Lugulu Girls from Nzoia also consoled themselves with a bronze medal after edging out hosts Sega with three straight sets in 25-21, 25-14 and 25-08.
