It’s a clear dawn of hope for seven students, some of whom are orphans and vulnerable, after Chesamisi Boys High school offered them scholarships to study at the school after having scored high marks in the 2016 KCPE examination. The students had failed to join secondary schools of their choice due to lack of school fees.
Speaking after officially admitting them in the school, Chesamisi Boys High School principal John Wakwabubi said the motive of having the students in school is to help them achieve their goal in life saying they were bright students who scored above 350 marks in their examinations but could not initially manage to join high school.
He disclosed that the school has initiated a kitty named ‘Chesa Wings to soar’ with its main aim being to raise money to cater for the school fees of the needy students and others who are vulnerable in the society.
Mr. Wakwabubi encouraged the students to work hard so as to succeed in life saying they are aiming to raise over one million shillings for the kitty and appealed to the schools’ alumni and other well-wishers to help in the contribution.
The principal disclosed that the support program was initiated in 2012 and over fifty students have so far benefitted from the kitty saying it is fully embraced by the school’s board of management and they are looking forward to its sustainability in future.
The students are David Naibei-410, John Kafu-385, Wekesa Murunga-372, Willy Simiyu-357, Lamek Ashivenda-357, Ian Swala-354 and Omukonyi Saidi -367.
The students promised to work hard, saying they have been propelled to do so due to the situation they were in before the scholarships saying they have to prove their worth to the sponsors.
One of the students, David Naibei, said he had initially sat for his KCPE examination in 2014 but his parents could not raise school fees for him prompting him to stay at home and he had to go back to school in 2016 and scored 410. He was selected to join Machakos high school but could not raise the school fees again to join the school.
“I thank the principal and the Chesamisi High School management for having granted me the scholarship and I promise that I will pass my examinations after four years,” he said.
