Chesumei MP Wilson Kogo has asked the government to shed light on how the Kshs 1.9 billion meant for the mass assembled schools desks program will be utilized. The program which was set up by President Uhuru Kenyatta aims to cushion the youths and provide a boost for the post Covid-19 economic recovery, with 650,000 school desks set to be made by jua kali artisans.
Speaking during in his constituency while handing out development funds to schools, Kogo said the program is a good idea but how the funds will be disbursed to ensure it benefits its target is a major challenge. He said the government should look into the matter further to ensure all schools also benefit equally.
The MP also asked the government to consider reopening schools, saying the Covid-19 curve is flattening. He urged the government to ensure there are clear school reopening protocols in learning institutions to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus when the schools resume classes.
