The scuffle that had been brewing over the exact place to establish the headquarters of the newly created Chesumei sub-county in Nandi county was resolved.
The government decided that the headquarters will be erected at Chemundu as was prior planned.
There has been a tussle between the residents of Chemundu and Mosoriot on where to put up the offices with some proposing Chemundu while others Mosoriot.
The situation had been turned political as there were allegations that some of the political leaders in Nandi wanted the headquarters to be relocated at Mosoriot.
According to area MCA of Chemundu/Kapng’etuny ward, Joseph Too, Chemundu area has adequate land to host the headquarters.
Too accused some political leaders in Nandi of meddling into the sensitive issue by trying to shuffle it to Mosoriot citing political selfishness.
The legislator maintained that Mosoriot is located between the borders of Nandi and Uasin-Gishu counties and that the residents will be forced to travel long distances to seek for services warning politicians to stay away from the matter and stop interfering with the process.
In a Baraza that took more than 8 hours, the residents of Chesumei unanimously agreed that the new headquarters be established at Chemundu chiefs office as agreed on earlier arguing that the region is a centre of the constituency.
The newly formed Chesumei sub-county was originally created out of Emgwen constituency and has a population of approximately 300,000 people.
One of the residents Peter Arusei while speaking to www.westfm.co.ke, reiterated Chemundu is an idyllic place with enough land to accommodate construction of buildings adding that it is centrally located.
“Those opposing Chemundu to be the headquarters should consider the interests of the people.” He said.
Residents applauded the efforts of the government in ensuring the headquarters remain in Chemundu.
The new Chesumei sub-county have already received a new DC Mr. Ngura Mwamachi together with the D.O One who are now manning the headquarters.
