After media coverage of parents who wanted to ‘sell’ their children in Tuwani ward, Saboti constituency in Trans Nzoia County, a well wisher has stepped forward and catered for the needs of the family, including paying school fees for the two children, providing food stuff and paying house rent for the family. Dr. Isaac Chetambe, a surgeon at Thika Hospital who resides in Naibiswa ward, Kiminini Sub County, visited the couple, Jacob Angusi and Susan Angusi.
“I was touched when I learnt that the couple wanted to sell their children or even give them away for free because of the high poverty levels,” said Dr. Chetambe, “I’ve come to help the family.”
Jacob Angusi together with his wife had publicly announced their decision openly and had revealed that they are HIV positive, though their children are HIV negative. They couldn’t figure out how they would take care of them.
Jacob Angusi, who is an orphan together with his wife, explained how life became tough to crack immediately he lost his stable job in Kusimu, and they moved to Kitale last year. He said that he considered killing his wife and children then commit suicide, before his wife came up with the idea to ‘sell’ their children.
The couple narrated their story to West FM, and after airing their grievances, Dr. Chetambe volunteered to help.
Chetambe urged leaders and well wishers to help families that don’t have any hope or are stranded in difficulties, not only through financial contributions but also by encouraging them and offering social support.
Susan Angusi admitted that the plan they had was dangerous, and encouraged other people who may be going through tough family times not to give up, “The plan we had was dangerous and I want to appeal to other families out there that might be going through some difficult times to keep the hope alive. We also thank West FM for sharing our plight,” she said.
