Chwele chicken slaughter house moved a step closer to completion after a team of Chinese engineers arrived at the site on Wednesday morning to assemble parts of the machinery to make it operational.
County Executive Committee member in charge of Agriculture Laurian Kholikho who accompanied the team of engineers stated the importance of the chicken factory to the people of Bungoma.
He said it will provide ready market for chicken and serve as an economic boost to farmers who rear chicken in Bungoma County and the Western region at large.
“Though this project has taken a long time to start but it will soon be complete and provide ready market to our chicken, so we encourage residents to rear more chicken for they now have a surety ” said Kholikho.
The CEC confirmed that the department in charge had received an electricity transformer from Rural Electrification Authority (REA) and that what was remaining was power connection to the site. Kolikho added that water will be drilled at the chicken slaughter house site in due time.
The Chief Officer, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives Peter Mukenya called upon farmers from Bungoma County to rear enough chicken to sustain the demand of the slaughter that is estimated to be 10,000 chicken per day upon completion.
Mukenya said engineers will take 20 days to assemble all the machinery at the site, saying they are taking the shortest time possible to ensure the process starts immediately.
The Chwele Slaughter house was initiated by Bungoma Governor Kenneth Lusaka with an objective of providing ready market for chicken and giving employment opportunities to Bungoma residents.
“The assembling of the machinery marks a good time for farmers of Kabuchai Sub-county because the county government has also completed the construction of Musese cofee mills,” said Kolikho.
He assured residents that the coffee miller is complete and operational adding that the miller had been tested awaiting initial working capital.
