It is boost to chicken farmers in Bungoma County and neighboring counties after the chicken slaughter house in Chwele was handed over to an investor who has leased it for 20 years to foresee its operations.
Bungoma County agriculture CECM Mathews Makanda during the handing over ceremony said it is a historical event as finally the slaughter house will be able to be in full operation saying having advertised thrice, they were lucky to have found a suitable bidder.
He said the investor has shown capability of running the slaughter house saying it is an added advantage to the community as well as the County at large as youths will be employed in different sectors.
His sentiments were echoed by Agriculture Chief Officer Juma Aruput who said after having been idle for some time it light at the end of the tunnel for chicken farmers who will get value for their money saying the machine has a capacity of slaughtering three thousand chicken per day.
Area Mca Barasa Mukhongo said he will be on the forefront to support any budget allocation towards developing the slaughter house saying his colleagues in the house were adamant as it had never been put to test before.
He however called upon the investor to ensure local residents benefit either directly or indirectly saying they can provide skilled as well as unskilled labor.
Abdi Abdi who is the investor assured the County government of maximum co operation saying situated in Chwele/Kabuchai ward the firm has to benefit the residents fully saying it is an asset to the government as well as for him as an investor.
He promised to give priority to locals in any job opportunities saying they have to also prove their worth.
