Circumcisers in Trans Nzoia County are blaming County Government for sidelining them in matters health education as well as provision of necessary support as they plan to continue with the exercise.
Speaking during circumcision ceremony of the son of John Mwanja who also a circumciser they stated that despite health department of the County having organized for seminars in offering them with vital Health tips previous even years, this time there was no event that was used to train and equip them with knowledge fearing that some new entrants who have no knowledge might not understand well the Health tips pertaining the exercise.
They added that some of the areas used for smearing mud the initiates have been grabbed or been turned to agricultural zones where locals bordering those sites have turned them to farm plantation leaving no where for the cultural event to take place.
They also appealed to the County Government through the department of Culture to improve their livelihoods by giving them funds within their ministry through their associations that they have formed so that they empower themselves by purchasing their relevant attires that distinguishes them from other people as well as purchasing of transportation amenities to better their services.
The event also was attended by Gubernatorial Candidate on DAP-K George Natembeya, senatorial candidate Joshua Werunga and Woman Representative Phanice Khatundi.
Natembeya promising to safeguard cultural sites for applying mud to initiates by buying the areas and protecting them from being grabbed as well as setting up cultural day every even year of circumcision for celebration.
Natembeya however appealed to the locals not to sale all their assets and waste on circumcision but keep some for education of their children.
