Clearing agents stage demo in Malaba town
Clearing agents in Malaba Town today staged a peaceful demonstration over the destruction caused by H-Young as well as long distance trucks to small roads in the area.
Led by Mr. Ben Papa, Patrick Inyaa and Benjamin Omukaga, the agents either criticized the slow pace at which H-Young Construction Company was conducting its work adding that the situation was interfering immensely with the economic activities of the town.
“These people have been here for almost five years now. When are they going to complete this road?’’ they asked
“We are very worried because our business is being affected terribly by of the slow movement of people and goods.’’ They added.
They faulted H-Young for failing to create a by-pass that would be used by vehicles belonging to their company as well as long distance trucks and therefore leading to the destruction of small roads.
“Our roads have been affected badly by these high tonnage vehicles and the situation continues to be worsened daily,’’ they lamented.
They took issue with the county government of Busia and area Mp Arthur Odera for remaining mum as things continued to deteriorate.
“We don’t know where the area Mca, Odera and Ojaamong’ are. It’s like we have a leadership vacuum in this county.” They urged.
They claimed that Malaba was the biggest revenue contributor to the county government of Busia and wondered why the political leaders had abandoned the town.
They also claimed that one woman was killed and a bodaboda operator had his legs operated on after sustaining injury following a grisly accident along Amagoro-Malaba road recently.
Several residents who spoke to the West media conquered with the grievances raised by the demonstrators.
