Stakeholders and climate change committees from two Sub Counties; Webuye East and Webuye West have held an engagement meeting to find a better way of working together in order to achieve the targets of climate change.
Addressing the media after the meeting in Webuye town County hall, Bungoma County climate change Director Mrs. Jane Mukonambi said the meeting was to sensitize the committees from the ward so that they can work together with the community to mitigate climate change.
She added that the County government of Bungoma has put in measures to make sure that the citizens plant enough trees and to support this community must be involved in the whole process in order to achieve the Kenya Kwanza plan that targets millions of trees to be planted in the next five years.
“In Bungoma County there is goodwill in keeping the environment green and policies have been put in place and formulated and the funds from the World Bank will help a great deal but we also need the support of the national government, “ said Jane Mukonambi.
She equally appealed to all people especially farmers to embrace planting of trees and more so those that are friendly to the crops, ” let’s us join together and plant trees and those who cut down one tree should plant more than those cut so that we can make our County and country green, “ she added
The participants appreciated the information acquired and said it will help them in sensitizing the community about climate change and how to mitigate it.
