The national government has been urged to quicken the distribution of subsidized fertilizer that they promised coffee farmers, as one way of increasing the rate of coffee produced. This was stated by the Bungoma county co-operatives chairman Josephat Makhanu who said that it will be better if the national government will honor their promise.
“The national government is supposed to begin distributing subsidized fertilizer to farmers as promised. One bag of 50Kg fertilizer will be sold at Kshs. 1,200 moreover, farmers are eagerly waiting for the fertilizer since it’s urgently needed,” said Mr. Makhanu.
He cited that the move will boost coffee farming, bearing in mind that farmers will increase the yields hence improving their lives. “When farmers get this fertilizer, it will really boost coffee produce and improve living standards, thus it will deal with the poverty predicament that is extensive among residents,” he stated.
Mr. Makhanu appealed to farmers to practice agri-business so that they may benefit from the coffee grinder that was donated by the county government of Bungoma stating that coffee produce will be inspected before being sold.
“As farmers, you should also practice agri-business since it is only through this that you can get profit given that you will be taking your coffee to the grinder. You should also know and understand the importance of this grinder. And as you will be bringing your coffee here be assured that you will never get losses since it will be inspected fully, graded before it is ground and sold,” he reiterated.
The chairman for coffee farmers Jephnea Mukenya urged the county government to be giving out seedlings to farmers to enable the grinder to work continuously. “For this grinder to keep on functioning, I urge the county government to help the farmers by providing seedlings so that they don’t lack what to plant, which will inevitably lead to low coffee produce,” said Mr. Mukenya.
