The CORD principals on Tuesday announced their agreement with the IEBC committee ruling, in a press conference at Ufungamano House in Nairobi. “We congratulate the joint team for showing a sense of patriotism,” said Raila Odinga. Both Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka, who are the main co-principals of CORD, together with Raila Odinga, declared their full support for the final decision of the committee.
Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, insisted peace must prevail during the upcoming general elections. Raila stated that he alongside the president, had met and come to an agreement to encourage the nation to embrace peace and unity, and avoid a repetition of the 2007 post election violence. He also commended the committee in charge of the IEBC reform talks and expressed his gratitude for the good work they accomplished.
Wetangula reiterated his belief that the senate would ensure the implementation of the committee come Wednesday 29th of August. This was further emphasized by Kalonzo Musyoka who said that the decision would be useful to Kenyans.
“There will be no stealing of elections come the general elections”, stated Kalonzo. He went on to further state that with the new committee, the reforms that have been made would ensure a straight forward outcome in the election results. In what was a clear sign of agreement and single-mindedness, the CORD officials all seemed to be in agreement that the removal of the current IEBC set up would be the start of a fair and just as well as peaceful political journey for Kenya as a whole.
