COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has said rogue employment agencies responsible for taking Kenyans to the Middle East should be closed, “We are going to make sure that those employment agencies and employment bureaus are closed,” he said, “The law is not there to protect such illegal trade, slavery, in the name of employment agencies.” President Uhuru Kenyatta had earlier highlighted this issue in his speech during the Labour Day commemoration at Uhuru Park, and he had urged Kenyans to use approved agencies, “You should also make sure that you register at the Kenyan embassy serving the foreign country you are in.”
The COTU Secretary General recalled the government’s efforts to streamline the management of foreign employment agencies and the comments President Uhuru Kenyatta made early this week. President Uhuru Kenyatta had earlier highlighted this issue in his speech during the Labour Day commemoration at Uhuru Park, and the President had urged Kenyans to use approved agencies, “You should also make sure that you register at the Kenyan embassy serving the foreign country you are in.”
Atwoli said that they have the backing of the President on this issue, “He said for domestic workers up to now it has to be stopped, but we want to see it taken out completely,” said Atwoli.
