The council of elders in Likuyani is aiming to reconcile and unite what it describes as a sharply divided political class in the area. Speaking to West Media, the council’s General Secretary, Mr. Cyprian Shisanya, said the council has expressed its disappointment over unceasing war of words and unnecessary conflicts between the area MP Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy and the five Members of the County Assembly (MCA) from the area.
“It is sad to note that our elected leaders have thrown to the dustbins their pre-election manifestos and are now busy wasting precious time by flexing muscles at each other at the expense of fostering economic development agendas in order to improve living standards of the electorate that ascended them to power,” said Shisanya.
The official castigated the ongoing political heat, which has been witnessed in the sub county for the better part of this year, and instead pleaded with the leaders to bury their differences in the interest of serving area residents.
Shisanya disclosed the council was secretly engaging the leaders with the aim of helping to reconcile them and thereby restore unity in the sub county.
He said the council had planned for a reconciliation meet that will bring together area MP Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy and the MCAs Kennedy Kilwake (Sango) Dickson Ombayo (Nzoia) Brian Mafunga (Likuyani) Josphat Mwasame (Kongoni) and Anthony Wabuge (Sinoko).
He further disclosed that the meeting will also be attended by area Deputy County Commissioner Wilson Kimaiyo who will chair it. However, Shisanya said bodyguards and supporters of the political leaders will not be allowed in the meeting.
