Preparations are now in full swing for the crucial vetting of Mr. Douglas Kanja Kirocho, the nominee for the role of Inspector-General of the National Police Service. The National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security, in collaboration with the Senate Standing Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations, has completed a pre-vetting meeting ahead of the pivotal Approval Hearing set for Thursday, August 15, 2024.
The pre-vetting session, co-chaired by Sen. William Cheptumo of Baringo County and Gabriel Tongoyo of Narok West constituency, was held at the Mini Chamber, County Hall. During this meeting, the committees established the guidelines for the vetting process in accordance with the Constitution and other relevant legislation.
President William Ruto’s nomination of Mr. Kanja Kirocho for the Inspector-General position has been officially forwarded to Parliament. The nomination will be scrutinized jointly by the Senate Committee on National Security, Defence, and Foreign Relations and the National Assembly Departmental Committee on Administration and Internal Security.
Following the vetting, the Joint Committee is tasked with compiling and submitting a report to both Houses of Parliament by August 20, 2024. This report will either endorse or reject Mr. Kanja Kirocho’s appointment.
As the date of the hearing approaches, all eyes are on this significant process that will determine the leadership of the National Police Service.
