Cases of Coronavirus in Kenya have surpassed the 6,000 mark after 259 people tested positive. This is after 2,718 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, with the case load now at 6,070. All new cases except 3 are Kenyans. 2 more people have died with fatalities now at 143, with recoveries now at 1,971 after 35 were discharged.
Nairobi leads in new cases with 127, followed by Mombasa County which has 39. Kiambu County has 22, Machakos has 16, Busia has 11-all from Teso North, Makueni 9, Nakuru 9, Uasin Gishu has 9, Kilifi County has 5, Kajiado County has 3 cases, Kisumu County 2, Lamu 2, Garissa 2, Marsabit 2 and Kwale County 1 case.
Speaking on Sunday at Afya house, Health CAS Dr Mercy Mwangangi urged County governments to enhance their Covid-19 preparedness, even as the virus spread in the Counties increases. She said the government expects the County governments to roll out the required interventions to be able to enhance their testing capacities. She said County governments must be able to deploy rapid response teams, “They need to be agile and they need to be able to be supported to ensure they work appropriately,” she said. She added that treatment facilities need to be ready to receive patients, even those in critical condition.
