Nandi county assembly legislators are putting more effort on the push for suspension of four county officials alleged to have been involved in the loss of Kshs 181 Million meant for Covid-19.
The legislators led by Hon. Terry Maiyo (nominated) and her counterpart from Kilibwoni ward Hon. Cynthia Muge,said the four employees should not be in office as per now following the graft allegations surrounding Covid-19 funds which is not accounted for.
Addressing journalists at the county chambers, the honorable members said the report which was tabled to the assembly indicated that the whole 118 M Covid-19 funds were missing and there was no any evidence presented to indicate how it was utilized.
“The CEC for finance docket Alfred Lagat failed to give out the documentation to the health committee on how the funds, Kshs 32 M and the Kshs 118 M were used and was not able to explain it at all a situation which indicated there was a big problem surrounding the procurement docket” they revealed.
Moreover, the committee established that two ICU beds in Nandi hills county hospital were missing and wanted an explanation from the CEC who failed to establish it.
They cited that the report has been an eye opener on graft allegations surrounding the health docket as it painted the exact picture of Nandi in regards to Covid-19 preparedness as it indicates the funds were used for other purposes.
“As the county assembly members we have done our part and it is upon the appointing authority (Nandi governor) to exercise his duty to suspend the four officials pending investigations,” they demanded.
The county government of Nandi is facing serious graft allegations of mismanagement of funds including the Kshs 13 M meant for bursaries of needy students, a situation which has made the public to raise eye brows to governor Sang’s administration.
