The County Assembly of Nandi is demanding for immediate suspension of four top county officials in the dockets of health and finance by the appointing authority over misappropriation of Covid-19 funds.
In the motion moved by the nominated MCA Hon Terry Maiyo and seconded by Kapsabet ward MCA Hon Fredrick Kipkemboi, the assembly unanimously voted for the suspension of the four officials including CEC for health Ruth Koech, Chief Officer medical services Dr Paul Lagat, CEC finance Alfred Keter and Chief Officer for finance Meshack Malakwen over misuse of Covid-19 funds.
The special committee report on inquiry into appropriation and expenditure of Covid-19 pandemic funds recommended the suspension of the health CEC Ruth Koech by the appointing authority pending investigations into the missing ICU beds, non-functionality of the oxygen plant and lack of accountability of Covid-19 emergency funds.
The report further recommends the suspension of the Chief Officer for medical services Dr Paul Lagat over pending investigations into the missing ICU beds and accountability of covid-19 funds.
The CEC for Finance Alfred Lagat and Chief Officer Finance Meshack Malakwen are also officers in question over the missing Covid-19 funds that the report recommends their suspension.
Lagat is accused of failing to demonstrate respect to the County Assembly of Nandi and conducting himself in a manner that promotes lack of confidence in the integrity of public office that he holds while Malakwen is facing investigations over pending Covid-19 funds.
The assembly has recommended that EACC and DCI be involved or invited to conduct investigations into the matter very fast.
