County governments have been requested to look into the cases bedeviling the health sector by paying health workers and providing personal protective equipment (PPEs) to boost their operations during the Covid-19 pandemic. Speaking in Kitale after the contribution of PPEs to the County government of Trans Nzoia, Equity Bank CCO Polycarp Igathe pointed out that health workers are facing serious challenges, including a lack of PPEs as well as poor pay.
He appealed to the County governments to make sure the interests of health workers are sorted out. “I call upon our County chiefs to treat health workers with dignity. They deserve it since they are our only hope
when it comes to disease treatment and management especially as we are faced with the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Igathe.
On his part, Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba lauded the bank for going an extra mile in social resposnibiliy, adding that availing PPEs will provide a needed boost for health workers. He stated that the County government has set aside sufficient room in the referral hospital that is still under construction for isolation and quarantine of Covid-19 patients.
“I have set aside some rooms in this hospital, 300 beds that will accommodate Covid-19 victims. The other isolation facility is at Mt. Elgon hospital, 32 beds capacity,” he said.
Other leaders present at the function were Trans Nzoia MCAs and Kiminini Mp Dr.
Chris Wamalwa who promised to work and help in spreading the messages on Covid-19 infection prevention.
